This pet portrait was a commission from a coworker who wanted several pictures on one drawing. From a design standpoint I thought it was not a good look. But the customer is always right, so I did it. I didn’t like the final outcome, but he did so that is all that matters I guess. This is my favorite of the lot.
Although the customer was pleased, it is not a piece that I would use as a sample of my best work. I suppose this is something to consider when you are being commissioned to do something that does not align with your vision. I think that graphic artists must deal with this issue all the time. It is exactly why I am not attracted to that industry.
My goal is to build a situation where I make what I am inspired to create, and then figure out how to market it afterwards. I don’t want to end up being hired to create things I don’t personally like.
What kind of market do you think my work is geared toward?
