Make Self Portraits for These Benefits:
When you make self-portraits you can reap excellent benefits. It allows you to explore your own identity and expression.Β Making several self-portraits over time can provide unique insights into your growth and development.
- One of the most significant benefits of creating multiple self-portraits is that it shows your progress and physical changes over time. You can observe changes in your technique, style, and appearance. It can be a powerful tool for self-reflection and can help you to identify areas for growth and improvement.
- On top of that, creating multiple self-portraits can also provide you with the opportunity to experiment with different techniques, materials, and compositions. As you work on each new portrait, you can try out new approaches and push the boundaries of your creative practice. This experimentation can be key to developing a unique artistic voice and style.
You are the subject that is always available and always willing! As an artist, creating self-portraits can be a highly beneficial practice that can improve your skills and help you to develop your style. Self-portrait making can be a challenging experience but will allow you to explore your own identity and get a deeper understanding of your own creative process.
Many Reflections of Time Past
This self portrait is far more beautiful than reality.Β And skinnier.Β This is a benefit of being an artist; you can make all kinds of improvements in your drawings that don’t exist.Β This is a suggested way to manifest the things you want to come in to your life.
This self portrait was done in July 2016.Β It started as a one line contour drawing and then developed from there.Β It is fascinating to see how no matter how fat my face is, I generally draw it 20lbs lighter.Β Funny.Β I enjoy using the ephemera of life as stickers and as mini collages in the borders of the sketchbook pages.
From the length of the hair, I know that this portrait was earlier than the other three.Β According to my records this one was created in 2005.Β This stage of hair length was difficult, but it didn’t last long.Β This self portrait sketchbook drawing reminds me of that moment just like a photograph.Β It takes me back to that address and shows me how far my skills have grown since then.
Which one is your favorite?Β Please let me know in the comments.
