See the Quality Pencil Drawing that Lost

Pencil drawing used to be my favorite medium.  It came naturally to me and I was intimidated by using color.  Now I rarely use graphite to make drawings.

This pencil drawing is one a that I entered in a college contest and lost.  It lacked value at the time.  The value has since been drastically increased digitally.

Three Differences in My Art Since College

This graphite piece was done from a newspaper ad for reference.  Back in 1988 when this drawing was done, I was into fashion.  Now I’m into comfort.  I was into how things look, but now I am more concerned with how things actually are. Everything about me was different then and some of it shows in this drawing.

  • Drawing with graphite doesn’t appeal to me anymore.
  • The woman in this drawing is not an image of beauty; she is malnourished.  She needs to eat a sandwich.
  • Ad photos from the sale inserts in the paper don’t inspire me to draw.

Now I prefer to use my own photos or life to make drawings instead of someone else’s photography.  Here is another pencil drawing using my imagination.  Several people have said it looks like me.

One Thing That is the Same

There are things that haven’t changed too.  I still LOVE umbrellas.  There are several in the house that I have not had occasion to use in several years.  My current hairstyle is waterproof!  Do you still have anything that you had 28 years ago?  What is it and why do you keep it?
