Peek into the studio.Β This photo is proof that a studio can happen anywhere.Β It is all I need.Β
Peek Into the Studio
As life gets more hectic and emotional, I find that I don’t have a natural tendency to run to the sketchbook, but away from it. This blog keeps me from this horrible end.Β My sketchbook has never been an outlet like for other people.Β If it was, I imagine I wouldn’t have this problem of long spaces between drawings.Β I am meditating on doing the 100 head challenge.Β I love drawing portraits and it might be a big help toΒ Β
This pencil collection inspires me in itself; each jar is like a bouquet of flowers.Β There are many more jars but they don’t fit.Β Just looking at art supplies seems to give me a boost.Β Definitely looking at works in progress give me an urge to add something.Β Β
Bringing home new supplies also gives me a surge of inspiration, but this is a habit that has gotten me into trouble.Β I have not yet discovered a convenient art supply spot, so I am safe from financial ruin for now.
Peek Into My Work Process
I am working on a germ of an idea, and until there is more meat to the drawing, I will give you a peek into my studio instead.Β It is currently the top of an end table next to the bed, but I see expansion on the horizon.
There was a large drafting table that I moved from address to address many times; it was a good prop but I rarely used it.Β My ideal workspace is probably a recliner and a drawing board or one of those gaming chairs with a monitor attached in a room with a large table for occasional painting processes.
Dream Studio Air Castles
A practical studio with the barest minimum of supplies.Β Anything that collects dust must find itself in the outgoing because there is no clutter and you can see the top of all the surfaces.Β This is so easy to say but not to do.Β For me the granddaughter and daughter of a depression era hoarder on one side of the family, and a collector of middle class wealth on the other side.Β It is generally very difficult for me to let material things go.Β I really need to put all my stuff outside on tarps like that old organization show on HGTV where they come to your house and bring a psychiatrist to provide a shoulder to cry on as you part with all your junk.Β Β
The studio of my dreams has:
- An Aeron Miller chair like this one or a gaming chair with massage and a built in monitor
- A large window that faces sunrises or sunsets
- Speakers with a subwoofer
- A settee or small couch or big chair
- over the chair lighting,
- an electric pencil sharpener
- Several types of rolling storage.Β This one is from IKEA.
I will post new pictures as it develops.
Do any of you have a dream work space?
Lynda longshore says
I do have a dream work space. It has wash tubs and water so I can mix up dyes. A large worktable that I can set up a big frame on to wax batiks. Room for buckets, paper and other paraphenalia. And lots of light, natural and artificual, because the older I get the more light I need.

I’ll bet you can make all that happen in Indiana. Miss you! Love you!
