find your art style

Find your art style with the steps in this post.

Developing your authentic style can be a challenging journey; it’s an effort in noticing the things you prefer.  It can take time to find your voice, but with effort and patience, you can discover your unique style and stand out from the crowd.

1. Experiment with different mediums and techniques

One of the best ways to find your art style is to experiment with different mediums and techniques. Try working with different materials, such as paint, charcoal, or digital tools. Try different styles, like realistic, abstract, or impressionistic. The more you experiment, the more you’ll learn about what you like and what works well for you.

2. Study the work of other artists

Another great way to find your style is to study the work of other artists. Look at the work of artists you admire and try to understand what makes their work unique. Analyze the composition, color, and brushstrokes of the work. Take note of what you like and dislike about the work.  Feel free to take one of these elements to use in your art without copying their work.

3. Practice regularly

The more you practice, the more you’ll develop your skills and style. Set aside time each day or week to work on your art. Practice different techniques and styles, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The more you practice, the more you’ll understand what works well for you and what doesn’t.

4. Take inspiration from your environment

Your environment can be a great source of inspiration for your art. Look around you and slowly observe the colors, patterns, textures, shadows and any other thing that catches your eye.  Use this information as data you are collecting on yourself.

5. Keep a sketchbook

A sketchbook is a powerful tool for any artist. It’s a place where you can experiment with different ideas and techniques. Keep a sketchbook with you at all times, and use it to jot down ideas and sketches as they come to you. This too is a great way to find your art style; you will begin to see patterns.  Notice what your favorite things to draw or paint are. Make a list of these and study them for similarities.

6. Be authentic

Ultimately, to find your art style, the most important thing is to be authentic. Don’t try to copy the artwork of others or force yourself into a style that doesn’t feel natural to you. Trust your instincts and be true to yourself; only draw those things that make your heart sing. Then your unique style will come through in your work.

Conclusion:

Developing your own style as an artist takes time, patience, and experimentation. Through consistent practice and patience, you will gradually uncover a unique artistic voice that truly reflects who you are. Look around you and get ideas from what you see. Allow those ideas to lead you in your creative journey and embrace the idea that development of style is generally a slow process.
