This pet portrait was a commission from a coworker who wanted several pictures on one drawing.Β From a design standpoint I thought it was not a good look.Β But the customer is always right, so I did it.Β I didn’t like the final outcome, but he did so that is all that matters I guess.Β This is my favorite of the lot.
Although the customer was pleased, it is not a piece that I would use as a sample of my best work.Β I suppose this is something to consider when you are being commissioned to do something that does not align with your vision.Β I think that graphic artists must deal with this issue all the time.Β It is exactly why I am not attracted to that industry.
My goal is to build a situation where I make what I am inspired to create, and then figure out how to market it afterwards.Β I don’t want to end up being hired to create things I don’t personally like.
What kind of market do you think my work is geared toward?

Wow, I know so many folks that would like to see their pets in drawing! This one is fantastic – please keep this up, I will be asking for a portrait of my german shepard (when I get one :).

Really? I’m surprised.

There’s something about his eye and ears that remind me of the Labrador Retriever I use to have. I see why your coworker liked it. The eyes are the window to the soul and like so many of your drawings, I don’t just see it, I feel it!!!

That is a high compliment; thank you!
